Rachaels Tip!

I have had countless brides try to describe to me the perfect color they are searching for….and I can only begin to tell you how many times that most amazing shade of purple is still really just purple! No matter what you call it, it’s purple!!

So, I always share with my brides this tip:  Bring me a sample….it can be a purple crayon, a purple piece of paper, ribbon, or a paint chip from a home improvement store. Whatever it is, find something in that color and we will do our very best to make sure we match it.

Rachel,
The flowers were absolutely beautiful! Exactly what i’d envisioned for our wedding; romantic and bright but with a quirky edge. I couldn’t have asked for more. Everyone on our end also commented that the flowers as well as decorations were gorgeous; and many said that even with the rain our wedding was very “us”.  So at the very least I know it was memorable!

Thank you so much, you were an integral part of our evening and it’s memories. I’ll be sure to post a glowing review when we return from Charleston.

Thanks again.

Wedding Cake Flowers – An Added Piece of Elegance to Your Day

There are many different pieces to put together for a wedding day and one of them happens to be the actual design of the wedding cake. Recently there has been a rising popularity in having flowers on the wedding cake. The addition of fresh flowers on a wedding cake adds color and beauty. They truly can be the “icing on the cake!”

Often times brides are unsure if fresh flowers are safe.  Yes, they are and a good florist will have purchased flowers from a greenhouse or farm that will eliminate any unwanted “friends” or other problems. A good florist will know how to properly place them on a cake as well.  Often times flowers can be placed on the cake and not in the cake.

When first beginning the designs for wedding cakes take the time to look through all the design options that are available. The best way to get the cake of your dreams is to keep a good open relationship with your florist and your cake baker. On occasion the baker will want to place the fresh flowers on the cake, but usually the florist does it.  If you are nervous, talk to your florist and find out how many cakes they have placed flowers on and you can always request to see pictures.

Rachael West Appears at Mosteller Mansion Again!

A beautiful place for any wedding in and around Hickory, NC is of course the Mosteller Mansion. Once again I had the joy of having a wedding at the Mosteller Mansion and I’d like to share it with you.

Throughout this event at Mosteller Mansion there was a large variety of flowers used with arrangements appearing everywhere you looked.

Beautiful reds...

Beautiful reds...

Throughout this wedding the use of some beautiful reds and whites in some tall elegant flower arrangements help set the romantic mood. The taller vases helped accent the final arrangements with the miniature vases placed throughout the reception hall. The contrasts in size between the two was just right.

With this wedding being held at the Mosteller Mansion there was a lot of space to fill up, so I enjoyed having some fun placing the arrangements throughout the rooms allowing a little touch of elegance appear everywhere you looked. If you are planning a North Carolina wedding then you may want to try getting your wedding booked at the Mosteller Mansion.

Mosteller Mansion Wedding Cake

The cake for this wedding was extremely simple, which is what made it wonderful.  Simple clusters of coordinating flowers adorned the edges of the cake while a loose dome sat atop.

The whole cake looked very lovely in the stained glass nook of the Mosteller Mansion.

Mosteller Mansion Wedding, Head Table

IMG_0088

We had the honor of participating in the most wonderful wedding at the Mosteller Mansion. The pictures are of the head table.  We used a mix of both tall and low centerpieces.  The tall ones were accented with incredibly tall curly willow branches….a simple way to really make a great statement.

Lake Hickory Country Club Wedding!

Reception Arrangments

Last week we had the privilege of doing a simple wedding at the Lake Hickory Country Club.

Wedding Cake

The bright colors again the white cake really popped and made a simple statement.  A great trick when you are not using a lot of flowers.

Small Centerpeice

Our bride specifically requested large bright gerbers floating in these bowls and goblet on top a mirror.

It was a simple arrangement but when scattered all around the room, and in different color combinations, it really made a statement.

Tall Arrangement with Light

The tall arrangements, also scattered around the room, featured large bright gerbers in a cluster of long grass.  Tucked inside the grass was a simple white LED light.

Preparing For A Big Wedding At Lake Hickory Country Club

Hopefully very soon we will be able to post a few pictures from our Country Club wedding this past weekend.  In the meantime, you can catch a glimpse of some of the little details.

Rehearsal Dinner at Lake Hickory Country Club

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to do the flowers for a rehearsal dinner hosted by the Lake Hickory Country Club.  It was such a pleasure to do flowers that were not the usual, traditional, style and flowers for a wedding event.

Centerpeice for Head Table

A black vase filled on the head table was the anchor for all the arrangements.  This particular arrangement combined the other two styles into one.  (See photo above).

Tall Centerpeice

The tall arrangement consisted of an unusual twist on an ocean theme.  The bottom of the clear glass vases were seashells resting on a bed of sand while moss and purple sea lavender added a some simple pops of color.

A top the beautiful glass vase were blue and white hydrangeas, some sea lavender, and grass which mimicked sea grass blowing in the breeze.

Rachael Setting Up

Small Centerpeices

The smaller arrangements consisted of square cube vases and black river rocks resting on a round mirror.  Bright yellow flowers and white queen ann’s lace all placed in random fashion looked stunning with the green galax leaves supporting them.
